KAUFLAND.DE - A COMPETITOR TO AMAZON AND EBAY IN EUROPE

Date

25 million articles, 5,000 categories, 5,000 companies and 1,300 shops. Kaufland.de records more than 32 million users per month!

In Poland, we associate Kaufland with a large-format stationary shop or possibly its own online shop. In Germany, on the other hand, it is known primarily as a sales platform that provides space for the activities of e-commerce entrepreneurs. Kaufland.de was established as a retail platform in March 2022, not as a "greenfield" start, but as a transformation of its predecessor Real. Under its new name, the platform is taking the global marketplace ranking by storm! This is a great opportunity to effectively reach German customers and... more, but more on that in a moment.

KAUFLAND.DE CHASING AMAZON?

The strength of the platform from the beginning was the product range. Kaufland.de already offered around 300,000 own-brand products at the very entrance, making it immediately one of the most important makertplace platforms in Germany. In Poland, Kaufland also has its own platform, but sells only its own products. In our western neighbours, the own sales are joined by other entrepreneurs, which at the moment number more than 5,000.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO MAINTAIN AN ACCOUNT AT KAUFLAND.DE?

Payments for account maintenance at Kaufland are divided into two types.

First of all, you need to pay for your subscription. You can choose between two options. The basic version costs € 39.95, while the more expensive one costs € 49.90. The more expensive option is worth choosing, for example, because you can link to your online shop, which facilitates your marketing efforts and generates more traffic for potential customers.

(2) In addition to the subscription, you should also be prepared to pay a commission. Exactly as with other platforms, the amount of commission depends on the product category. For example, in the case of computers and electronics, the commission is 7% on the final price of the product, and in the home and garden category it is 12.5%.

You can withdraw the money you earn at Kaufland directly to your bank account or to your PayPal account. You have to order the withdrawal yourself. It is worth remembering that the platform releases the funds for withdrawal 21 days after the purchase and only after this time are they available for withdrawal by the retailer.

As with similar platforms - Amazon, Ebay, Cdiscount and others - in order to create an account on Kaufland.de, a company must be registered on the platform. Registration on Kaufland.de can be done here: https://www.kaufland.de/seller-signup

Before registering, make sure you meet the following conditions:

  • You have a registered business that has been in existence for at least two years.
  • You provide customer contact in German.
  • The articles you want to sell are not on the banned list.
  • You have the official EAN (GTIN) number for each product (the EAN code is best obtained from the website: https://www.gs1pl.org)

If you meet the above conditions, you can confidently proceed to create an account on Kaufland.de. For verification you will need:

*Exception: having to register for VAT OSS, this is an obligation introduced on 1 July 2022. VAT OSS is an electronic one-stop shop for simplifying VAT settlements, whereby sellers do not have to register for VAT in each individual buyer country, even after exceeding the foreign sales limit - a single registration for VAT OSS is sufficient. As a result, only Polish documents are required at Kaufland.de.
